Senior Accountant - Assurance

The ideal candidate will establish themselves as a senior member of the audit team and advance to an audit manager position.

 Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct and lead engagements, including audits and reviews for a diverse client base
  • Serving as the file senior, you are responsible for pre-engagement planning, execution and deliverable development
  • Serve as the point-of-contact to the client. Ensure that the client is fully informed of engagement progress and logistics
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of complex accounting and auditing concepts and apply them to client situations
  • Ensure compliance with professional standards and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to developing people through effectively motivating, coaching, and delegating tasks, and providing guidance
  • Participate in business development initiatives and identify new business opportunities
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes while effectively using Geib & Company’s internal programs and systems

 

Qualifications

  • CPA designation
  • 3 to 4 years of relevant public accounting experience
  • Extensive knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE)
  • Exceptional client service and communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships
  • Strong leadership abilities to help develop junior staff
  • Proven technical skills with MS Office and CaseWare
  • Understanding of business, accounting, management and practice development principles

Client Liaison

This role is ideal for a self-starter who thrives on learning new skills while on the job and is instrumental in ensuring that our clients receive outstanding service and that our accounting processes run smoothly.

Administration

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries and ensuring timely responses.
  • Foster strong relationships with clients, understand their needs, and coordinate with the accounting team to provide tailored services.
  • Manage client communications, including scheduling meetings, preparing correspondence, and following up on action items.
  • Maintain client records and ensure all information is up-to-date and accurately documented.
  • Assist in onboarding new clients, ensuring a smooth transition and setup within the firm’s systems.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned by management.

 

Technician

  • Assisting clients with monthly financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
  • Work with accounting software to maintain client accounts, perform data entry, and generate financial reports.
  • Identify issues and errors, investigate discrepancies, and discuss with the manager or partner to develop resolutions to resolve issues and errors.
  • Completion of routine account analysis and bookkeeping using established procedures.
  • Reconcile all required balance sheet accounts, including bank and credit card accounts.
  • Support the preparation and filing of year-end accounting engagements, including working papers, adjusting journal entries, and financial statements in accordance with Firm standards.

  • Completion of post-secondary education in an administrative program is highly desirable.
  • A strong desire to pursue further education or professional development to advance career growth.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with compilation, review, audit, bookkeeping and tax engagements
  • Prepare and maintain government remittances/filings, accounts receivable, expenses, accounts payable and payroll transactions
  • Set-up client files and complete administrative tasks as requested
  • Perform the month-end and quarter-end close process
  • Maintain, monitor and reconcile GL accounts including cash, bank reconciliations, prepaid expenses, accounts receivable, accounts payable, accrued liabilities, intercompany and point of sale (POS)/system uploads
  • Identify issues and errors, investigate discrepancies and discuss with managers or engagement partners to develop resolutions
  • Communicate with the government regarding information requests, assessments and installments
  • Work collaboratively with the client engagement team

 

Qualifications

  • Working towards a bachelor’s degree
  • Working towards prerequisites for admission into the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP)
  • Previous accounting related office experience is considered an asset
  • Customer service and/or client service experience is considered an asset
  • Experience working with accounting and tax software is considered an asset

  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes while effectively using GEIB & CO internal programs and systems
